TG Basketball Club

Tokyo Gaijins or 'TG' organizes pick-up basketball sessions regularly on weekends, weeknights and mornings, too.

We play five-on-five indoor pickup basketball games at conveniently located gyms in central Tokyo.

About 70% of our members are foreigners and 30% are (mostly English speaking) Japanese.

An average of around 18-20 players participate on each sessions.

We only organize pickup games for experienced basketball players.

Come play hoops with us!

How to join

  • Fill-out the membership form.
  • Read the membership, rules and guidelines carefully.
  • Join the basketball mailing list and Meetup group right after the confirmation of your membership.
  • Upcoming games will be sent by email and posted on Meetup.
  • There's a possibility that we may cancel, postpone or adjust the time or change the venue of the upcoming games due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g. natural calamity, availability of the person in-charge, etc.).
  • Please make sure that you are subscribed to the basketball mailing list and Meetup to get game cancellation notification.
  • Reservation for a session will NOT guarantee you a spot. It's first-come/first-served on the day. Check the email and Meetup for more details.
  • Making a reservation for a session will be very helpful for you as it gives you an idea on how many players to expect and Meetup will also send you reminder of the session/s you signed up for.

Rules and guidelines

  • We reserve the rights to decline you from joining our group if your basketball skill is below average level so not to affect everyone and the dynamics of the game. Make sure you understand this very important rule before coming!
  • The maximum no. of players allowed to play on each sessions are strictly implemented.
  • Kids below 18 years of age are prohibited. Sorry :(
  • Indoor basketball shoes is a MUST! Any footwear that you use/wear to walk outside are not allowed on the court.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking alcoholic beverage inside the gym premises are prohibited.
  • No fighting or use of abusive words and unnacceptable behaviours towards other players and the organizers.
  • The organizer and the person in-charge of the game reserves the right to ban you at anytime if you violate these guidelines.

Participation Fee

  • The fee is 1,500yen/session/player and it is collected on the court by the person in-charge before the start of the session.
  • No need to pay anything at the gym reception.
  • The amount collected goes to pay for the court rent (between 8,700yen-14,000yen), non-refundable venue bond of about 400,000yen (club money), Wilson basketballs (6), transportation allowance, meals and drinks allowance, time and work rendered by the organizer, the person in-charge of the game, the person that books the court (the most time consuming part), and other miscellaneous expenses.
  • We discourage you from joining if you have any issue with the game fee.
  • We understand that paying 1,500yen/session is expensive just to play basketball but this is the only way we can keep the club running and motivate those involve in running the session and booking the court to keep going.
