PLACES TO EXPLORE/SEE/VISIT

    Hida Takayama Old Town

  • An old town in Japan's mountainous region of Gifu Prefecture. The narrow streets of its Sanmachi Suji historic district are lined with wooden merchants’ houses dating back to the Edo Period, along with many small museums and shrines.
  • Hida Folk Village

  • An open air museum exhibiting over 30 traditional houses built during the Edo Period including some 'Gassho-Zukuri' farmhouses.
  • Shomyo Falls

  • Tumbling 350m amidst a cloud of mist, Shomyo Falls is Japan’s tallest waterfall. After a heavy rainfall, a twin waterfall called Hannoki Falls can flow beside it. Sometimes if you get really lucky, the Somen Falls can also appear on the right side of the Hannoki Falls creating an extremely rare sight of three waterfalls flowing majestically next to each other.
  • Shirakawago

  • You cannot see the combination of majestic nature and serene historical village anywhere else in Japan, except Shirakawago. The village consists of traditional houses with thatched and steep roofs called Gassho-Zukuri. Shirakawago has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1995. The style of houses is estimated to be built in the late 17th century.
